Chicago, Chicago that toddling townChicago, Chicago I will show you around -
I love it
Bet your bottom dollar you lose the blues in Chicago, Chicago
The town that Billy Sunday couldn't shut down
On State Street, that great street, I just want to say
They do things they don't do on Broadway
They have the time, the time of their life
I saw a man, he danced with his wifeIn Chicago,

Bringing the 2016 Olympics to Chicago could be good or bad. Good because the large number of people traveling into the city could boost Chicago’s economy. Property prices will increase throughout the city especially in areas where the Olympic venues will be built.
But there are also many reasons why it could be a bad thing. The city will be absultely insane if the olympics come here. Traffic will be awful. Getting around the city will be a pain in the ass. And does chicago have the money to do this?
Most cities who have held the olympics have benefitted from it, except atlanta. DO we want this to happen to chicago?

Metropolis 2020 "Part IV: Land Use and Housing"
This report states that social and economic segregation has increased when it comes to land use. This can be seen all over Chicago. Neighborhood are certainly divided by social and economic status. Even in the UIC area this can be seen. The majority of the Little Italy Area are decently weathly to middle class people. Paying rent in Chicago or owning a place has never been cheap, so in order to live in this area you must have some money. Then there are part of little Ittaly that have recently been town down where very low income families once lived. And then you have all the new devolpment happening on halsted where the people whom are doing quite well for themselves live.

Chicago cubs
Why they suck!
I don’t even have to exaplin why the cubs suck so bad because it will be self explanatory when you read the lyrics to the song that is sung at thie home games.
Baseball season’s underway
Well you better get ready for a brand new day
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.
They’re singing …
Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today
Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.
They got the power, they got the speed
To be the best in the National League
Well this is the year and the Cubs are real
So come on down to Wrigley Field.
We’re singing now …
Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today
Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.
Baseball time is here again
You can catch it all on WGN
So stamp your feet and clap your hands
Chicago Cubs got the greatest fans.
You’re singing now …
Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today
Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

I am going to comment on one of my favorite people’s blog. Lisa talks about Comisky park as being one of her favorite places in Chicago. This is also listed as one of my favorite places. I totally agree with her that I cannot call it the cell. Anyone who calls it this in my presence is guaranteed to be ridiculed for the rest of the night. I cant stand it. I actually picked up a guy one time because he thought I was really funny cus I wouldn’t stop making fun of him for calling it the cell. When he left he was like I feel like I should make it up to you that I called it the cell by taking you to a sox game and dinner. He was a cool guy and we had fun but needless to say it didn’t work out. I couldn’t continue to date a guy who called Comisky Park "the cell".

UIC’s development, redevelopment, and expansion
Sooo…. As I said in class I think that UIC campus is very dark and dreary. There were a lot of counter arguments to my opinion. But I think that was people didn’t understand was that I was not talking about UIC in relation to what it use to be like and how much it has changed, I was comparing it to other campuses I have been on in the last 4 years. I understand that UIC has come a very long way but that does not mean that it is anywhere near where it could be. I visit a lot of schools because of how much we travel for volleyball. And I would have to say that of the 20 some campuses ive been on UIC is one of the worst. The buildings are not modern in anyway and the campus is very uninviting.

The Rise of the Creative Class
Why cities without gays and rock bands are losing economic development race.
Richard Florida’s theory received so mch favorable attention because someone is finally coming out and saying what everyone thinks. Gay people have always and will always be the most creative of the classes. Why this is? Why is the sky blue? That is just the way things go. By not having this class of people around the economic development race is at a huge loss.

Hmmm… well these grades seem a little odd to me. Lousiiana gets graded a B overall and Illinois gets graded a C. What is that about? Who is in charge of these grades? The "teacher" of this class is all wrong. Apparently the teacher was from Lousiana or has a lot of realtives who live there that she loves a lot. She is obviously bias. Maybe she doesn’t like awesome cities like Chicago. Maybe she is offended by Kanye’s lyrics so she blames all of Illinois. Who doesn’t like Illinois? This lady has a serious problem.
Ok so… just so everyone knows that was a joke. I don’t really think there was a teacher who made up these grades. I was really just trying to be funny like Jill but I don’t know if anyone was sensing my heavy sarcasm.

Wrigleyville
OK… so my last blog was about how I am a die hard sox fan and then I am saying that one of my top five favorite places in Chicago is wrigleyville…. That seems to be pretty contradictory. When I say wrigleyville I do noy mean wrigley field…. I mean the area in general. This is a great place for night life. Everyone I decently young and having a great time. This is my area of choice to go out on the weekends. Some of my favorite bars in the area are Moe’s Cantina and John Barleycorn. There are a ton of bars within a strip of about 3 blocks. There is something for evceryone in this area!

Comisky
Comisky field… I wont even dare to call it by its other name…. it definitely one of my favorite places in Chicago. I was born and raised on the southside and being a white sox was ingrained my my mind. The atmosphere at this park is awesome. Everyone is there for the same reason…. Because they LOVE the white sox. Sox fans are hard core… there is ever a dull moment when you are at Comisky park.

North Avenue Beach is also one of my top five favorite places in Chicago. As you have probably caught on I am a volleyball player. One summer I work for Chicago Sport and Social working the beach volleyball leagues. This job was awesome. I got to spend everyday at this beach playing volleyball. There is a wide variety of people there and so much to do. I wouldn’t recommend getting in the water though! .

http://grandluxcafe.com/
One of my top five favorite places in Chicago is the Grand Lux Café. SO if you know me you know that I love food! I was introduced to this resteraunt when I came to school to play volleyball at UIC. When we have new recruits in town (players that we want to come and play volleyball at UIC) we take them out to dinner. Grand Lux is a place we take a lot of our recruits. Certain players are picked to host these recruits when they come in. The recruits stay with them and we are the hosts get money to take care of them. We also get to go out to dinner with them on the schools dime. When I was a freshman I got to host a lot of recruits. When my coach would tell me we were going to Grand Lux for dinner I would be so excited. The food is to die for and the atmosphere is fantastic. If you go to the link I provided there is a picture of my favorite thing about that restaurant right on the front page. It this chocolate cake with warm hot fudge on the inside. Everyone should try this place at this once in their lifetime!

Joanna COnnor
this blog goes along with my last blog. I must tell you about this amazing blues musician names joanna connor. she plays all the time at Kingston Mines. She is absolutely amazing. Her guitar skills can match any man's in the city. There are not that many female guitar players who are as good as her. If anybody is interested she is playing on November 23 and 24 at Kingston Mines. I will probably be there both nights. maybe some alcoholic beverages will be involved! who knows? the cover is $15. this may seem like a lot but trust me is it worth it and you will not be disappointed!

Blog #15
Apparently I labeled my blogs wrong. I put 11 twice. ANYWAY……. I decided to conclude my blog about cities with a song about the greatest city in the world. When I first listened to this song I really thought Kanye might be talking about a girl… but he is talking about his sweet home
Kanye West’s: Homecoming
And you say Chi city,
Chi city, Chi city
I’m coming home again.
Do you think about me now and then?
Do you think about me now and then?
Cause I’m coming home again
I’m in home again.
I met this girl when I was three years old
And what I loved most she had so much soul
She said, excuse me little homie, I know you don’t know me- but,
My name is Windy and, I like to blow trees and,
From that point I never blow her off,
N***as come from outta town I like to show her off,
They like to act tough, she like to tow em off,
And make em straighten up their hat, cause she know they soft
And when I grew up she showed me how to go downtown
And at nighttime her face lit up so astounding
And I told her in my heart is where she always be
She never mess with entertainers cause they always leave
She said it felt like they walked and drove on me
Knew I was gang affiliated got on TV and told on me
I guess it’s why last winter she got so cold on me
She said, Ye keep making that, keep making that platinum and gold for me
Do you think about me now and then?
Do you think about me now and then?
Cause I’m coming home again
I’m in home again
Do you think about me now and then?
Do you think about me now and then?
Oooh, now I’m coming home again
Maybe we can start again
But if you really care for her, then you would n-never hit the airport,
To follow your dream, sometimes I still talk to her, but when I talk to her
It always seems like she talking about me,
She said you left your kids and they just like you
They wanna rap and make soul beats just like you,
But they just not you and I just got through
Talking bout what n***as tryin' to do just not new
Now everybody got the game figured out all wrong
I guess you never know what you got till its gone
I guess this is why I’m here and I can't come back home
And guess when I heard that when I was back home
Every interview I’m representing you making you proud
Reach for the stars so if you fall you land on a cloud
Jump in the crowd, spark your lighters, wave 'em around,
And if you don’t know by now, I’m talking about Chi town,
Do you think about me now and then?
Do you think about me now and then?
Cause I’m coming home again
I'm in home again
Maybe, do you remember when fireworks at Lake Michigan
Oooh, now I’m coming home again
I'm in home again
Maybe, do you remember when fireworks at Lake Michigan
Oooh, now I’m coming home again
Maybe we can start again
Loyee oyeee oh, loyee oyeee oh
Coming home again
Loyee oyeee oh, loyee oyeee oh
Coming home again
Maybe we can start again

My Census Tract
Well I was lucky enough to be the example in class when we talked about our Census tracts. In class I said that I thought this census was out fo date because I thought that much more college students lived in the area as apposed to families. I would like to strike this statement from the record. There are MORE college students living in Little Italy than there were when this census was taken, but there are more families that live in this area then I had thought. I came up with this conclusion after writing my observation paper. I observed on a Saturday night and did see mostly college students, but this paper made me be more aware of my surroundings in everyday life. So now when I walk around my neighborhood I look at the different types of people in it. I think I used to see only college students because those are the people I noticed. But now that I have learned to not only be an active participant in my life as well as being an onlooker, I have learned that MANY families do live in my area. The ratio of families to college students may even be a great number of families!

Ok… so this blog definitely goes along with my last one. I am from

1.You know what a "bev rat" is. 2. When you meet people, you ask them where they are from and they tell you their parish. example: Fisher, Barnabas, CK 3. But, you usually don't have to ask where people are from because you know them or you know of them through grade-school-like stories you have heard about their problems, sex-lives, or you are just related or are family friends. 4. By the time you were in 5th grade you had a boyfriend or a girlfriend and went to Taco Bell on dates, by 8th grade you had gotten with or gone out with over half of your grade. 5. If you are not Irish, then you are black. 6. Your older siblings (or friends' older siblings) bought you beer when you were in 6th grade. 7. You have had a beer with your family and neighbors at family parties or block parties.! 8. You have a favorite park, and you think that kids who hung out at any other park are"trash" or scumbags. 9. You think anyone from Morgan Park is a scumbag. (AND UNLESS THIS MEANS THE SCHOOL, I RESENT THAT) 10. Anyone from

So we were told to do one interesting/fun/provovative/challenging entry. I chose to do a fun one because that is what I am… FUN. Anyway, I grew up on the Southside of Chicago. And any of you who know anyone from the Southside must know how much pride we truly have! I just wanted to share with you one of many fun ways we “southsiders” identify ourselves. This song is called “South Side Irish” and was written by Black, McEldowney & Walsh. copyright 1984
We're the
Where every day is Paddy's Day and everyone's a guest
If you're Irish on the North Side or Irish on the West
Welcome to the South Side come join the Irish Fest!
Chorus:
We're the South Side Irish as our fathers were before
We come from the Windy City and we're Irish to the core
From Bridgeport to Beverly from Midway to Soth Shore
We're the South Side Irish-Let's sing it out once more!
Our parents came from Mayo, from
We come from Sabina, St. Kilian's and St. Gall
St. Leo, Visitation, Little Flower and the rest.
The South Side parishes are mighty-they're the best!
Chorus
We live on the South Side-Mayor Daley lived here too
The Greatest Irish Leader that
and he was always proud of his South Side Irish roots!
So here's to His Honor to his memory we'll be true.
Chorus
We sing the songs our fathers sang when they were growing up
Rebel songs of
and when it comes to baseball-we have two favorite clubs
The Go-Go White Sox... and whoever plays the Cubs!

Blog #10
I was reading through Jill’s blog and this one particularly grabbed my attention because I am a HUGE sex and the city fan!
I am a late bloomer when it comes to the Sex and the City phenomenon. I love the show! I think it is brilliantly entertaining. The plot, comedy and drama swallows me whole. I can sit on my white leather couch, hours on end, watching four women BS about their lives and love every minute of it. In turn, I can call my girlfriends and hear the same BS in a non-fictional dramatic manner and be annoyed? In typical Carrie Bradshaw fashion, "I got to thinking", is it the sex, or the city? Why are we as living beings so enthralled with this fictional show about a journalist and her sex-life in the big city? Why are our own lives so draining and tedious? Anywho, enough role playing. All I need is a pack of Marbrolo Lights and my body weight divided by two and I would be Carrie Bradshaw.
I am fascinated by
Wow…….. I really love her blogs. They are soooo fun and clever. Im thinking about adopting her style for the rest of my blogs. Anyway…. I am a big fan of this show and I agree with everything that she is saying. It made me think that I am just like those women. Well im not 35, unmarried, and having sex with random men all the time. But I am a single girl living in a big city, and I go to breakfast with my friends to talk about dates and what I did last night. I never realized how lucky I am to be where I am. Lots of my friends move back home to the southside when they are done with school but I plan on staying here in this wonderful city living out my favorite TV show ever! By the way…. I have all the seasons on DVD if you want to borrow them Jill.

Personal observation of gentrification
Dictionary.com states that gentrification is : the buying and renovation of houses and stores in deteriorated urban neighborhoods by upper- or middle-income families or individuals, thus improving property values but often displacing low-income families and small businesses.
So I am a little unsure of this definition. Does completely knocking down housing and rebuilding count as gentrification? Because I have witnessed much of this in the area that I live. Directly across the street from where I live on Taylor and Racine new housing has been put in place of old run down housing. There is also some very run down housing along
